Divemasters are not all created equally. At Phangan International Diving School we pride ourselves on offering the best Divemaster courses and internships available anywhere in the world. Our structured yet flexible Divemaster programs allow you to work at your own pace under the guidance of our professional development team. Headed by our PADI Course Director, the Divemaster program at PIDS is more than a course, it is a full on career development program designed to make you a valuable PADI professional. As a busy PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre many of our Divemaster candidates go on to become successful instructors. As such we always prepare our Divemaster candidates to the highest possible standards. Our Divemaster program offers you the chance to develop your knowledge to a high level through a series of 9 workshops/seminars covering a range of topics from how to supervise student divers and certified divers, to techniques for risk management, programs you may conduct independently, and a wide range of professional level dive theory and physiology. It also includes seminars that focus on your career and how best to succeed as a PADI professional in this highly competitive industry. In addition, we will hone your diving skills to “demonstration quality.” This is the level of training expected of PADI instructors, and is included in our Divemaster program. We include a series of workshops that focus on the programs you can conduct as a Divemaster. This series is conducted in the water and fully prepares you to teach programs from the PADI Skin Diver course through being involved in PADI Discover Scuba Diving, as well as Re-Activate (PADI’s refresher program) and Discover Local Diving. You will also take part in working with real students and divers on several different levels, including Open Water course students, continuing education students (Advanced Open Water / Rescue Diver course, etc.) as well as guiding real clients and fun divers. This is all done along side one of our highly trained Internship Mentors, so that you get experience working as part of an instructional team in a world class IDC centre. We include training in both Deep Diving and Search and Recovery workshops, as well as assessing your watermanship skills through a series of in-water exercises that develop your comfort level to that which is expected of a well-trained PADI Professional. Aside from all that, there is the diving! The part we all fell in love with. As part of the Divemaster program, we will encourage you to take full advantage of our daily trips to the local dive sites. We do two trips per day (most days) and interns are always welcome to jump onboard and dive, dive, dive. Of course as part of the team we will also train you to be part of the boat team, handling equipment and overseeing dive site set up and management, giving professional dive briefings, and we will expect you to put these skills to use on the boat to gain experience, confidence, and help out the boat and dive team. That opportunity to gain experience in a world class PADI IDC centre on the region’s best dive sites is just one of the things that sets the PIDS Divemaster program apart.
Our professional development team are multi-lingual and come from cultures and countries as diverse as Australia, South Africa, Canada and the UK with world-wide diving experience. Our staff have extensive knowledge of warm water and cold water teaching, dive centre management, equipment repair and retail sales, and just about every other diving related job imaginable. This gives you a unique opportunity to learn the skills, tips, and techniques that will make you a successful PADI professional anywhere in the world your dreams take you. Headed by our on staff PADI Course Director, the PIDS Divemaster mentorship team takes your career seriously.
There is more to being a Divemaster than just completing the course requirements, there is real world experience and confidence to be gained that can only be achieved through doing it. Our Divemaster students are always welcome to stay with us for as long as your time frame allows to assist our Instructors and certified divers in their dive experiences, giving you valuable experience. Those who choose to stay on with us after their course will always leave with a letter of recommendation from our Course Director, as well as a resume filled with actual experience. This can make a huge difference in your ability to find a good job in your next destination. If you plan on traveling to other dive regions it’s likely that our Course Director and Staff, through their own experience of working all around the world, can help and counsel you on teaching in differing environments and help you with an introduction to colleagues in those areas.
Our Course Director and Divemaster Mentorship staff will always be available for consultation during your training, so if you’re still not sure of the location where you’d like to ‘GoPro’, ask yourself the following 10 questions:

  1. Is my internship structured, yet flexible enough for me to control my own schedule?
  2. Do I have an experienced PADI Course Director overseeing my training?
  3. Can I get tuition in other languages, if needed?
  4. Is my course going to run by professionals who make their living from creating world class PADI Professionals?
  5. Can I assist on PADI courses and dive after my certification is completed for additional experience?
  6. Will I have an on-site confined water training area and swimming pool at my availability for additional skill development and extended practice?
  7. Is the dive facility I want to be trained in able to offer the complete system of PADI ‘continuing education’ including Instructor programs and PADI specialty training in Wreck diving, Night diving, Deep diving, Equipment repair, Gas Blending and more?
  8. Are my Instructors able to help me with career advice and are they well connected in the local region and in other dive resorts around the world?
  9. Am I confident my Divemaster program will be professional, knowledgeable, interesting, real world and fun?
  10. Has PADI recognized my dive facility and Instructors with certificates of excellence and recognition?

If answering YES to each of these questions is important to you, then please contact us today to get started on what many people consider to be the best times of their lives. Unfortunately, the one thing we cannot give you an idea of is the great ambiance and atmosphere that exists at PIDS. Probably one of our biggest assets is intangible, no matter how well equipped our facility is, no building, boats, classrooms, or equipment can match the care, attention, service and quality that we put into every PADI program and all the staff at our resort who work so hard to achieve it. The camaraderie that is built between Divemaster candidates, as well as with the staff, forges life long friendships, and creates a network of dive buddies and professional contacts wherever you go in the world.
